Lawrence Hill’s The Book of Negroes depicts the early life, kidnapping, enslavement, escape and triumph of an African woman during the era of slavery. The novel’s main character, Aminata Diallo, is able to succeed in the face of great hardship, largely due to her ability to read and write. Her achievements as a servant in Charlestown, a teacher in Canvas Town, and a djeli in Africa and later in London, make her an abolitionist’s dream. It is due to her literacy that she survives and thrives.

What should I be working on?
Forum update: Since the Lefora forums have been crazy I decided to re-boot us into an internal forum that ACTUALLY WORKS AT SCHOOL. Shocking, I know.
The link for the old forum is still listed above, and there is also the NEW FORUM where everyone should post from now on. If you already started posting in the old forum you will get credit for all your posts that live there. No worries.
If you want to cut and paste a good conversation that you had going from the old forum into the new forum, please do so, but you will not get double credit for the same post. Got it? Okay.
Everyone should have a MINIMUM of TEN POSTS by Sunday night. Next week we will start Week #3. If you have any questions just email me.
Also, you've got coming up:
Computer Lab days:
I have attached two example character sketches (both level 4 - the first one received 85% and the second one 90%, although it is a bit long and includes an unnecessary introduction). Note: You should use sub-headings (like the second example) and you should include a Work Cited page at the end of your paper, even though these two examples are missing a citation page.
